I didn’t watch
Britain’s Got Talent until the
New York Times ran an
article about a YouTube phenom who looks like a character from a Monty Python skit. The person in question is Susan Boyle, the breakout hit of this season’s show. I followed the article to her
YouTube video, and I feel so much better about humanity. She is so ebullient, positive, and confident, which is not what her phsyique and the show’s editing set the user up to expect. The reaction on the judges’ face is incredible. Just look at Simon Cowell at 4:03, and you shall cry too.
The article also mentions Paul Potts, a contestant who boyled it on the show’s first season. His is also an inspirational video. Simon’s reaction at 1:00 is priceless.
There are few moments when I have been close to crying. The previous two were Captain Sullenberger’s landing on the Hudson and Obama’s election victory rally. That was two times in ten minutes.
